Brief

This VR psychological thriller was designed to leverage the immersive nature of Virtual Reality to blur the lines between reality and illusion during a high-stakes interrogation. The technical goal was to create a performant, "hauntingly stylised" 3D environment that remains stable and comfortable for players while delivering intense narrative tension.

The Process

Phase 1: Visual Identity & Haunting Stylization The process began with defining a distinct visual style that would enhance the psychological tension of the VR medium. As Head 3D Artist, I directed the creation of a "hauntingly stylized" aesthetic, focusing on high-contrast lighting and desaturated palettes to emphasize the player's sense of isolation and fragmentation.



Phase 2: 3D Asset Pipeline & Texture Mapping To ensure the environment felt tactile and grounded within its stylized constraints, I managed the full 3D pipeline. This involved detailed modeling in Blender and meticulous UV unwrapping to apply hand-painted textures. By maintaining a strict high-to-low poly workflow, I ensured the assets were optimized for real-time VR performance without sacrificing visual depth.



Phase 3: Technical Implementation & VR Logic Using C# within the Unity engine, I implemented core interactive mechanics specifically tailored for VR. This included the interrogation system logic, narrative progression triggers, and environmental puzzles. A primary focus was placed on VR comfort and immersion, conducting rigorous testing to ensure smooth player interaction and haptic response during high-stress narrative beats.



Phase 4: Optimization & Performance Profiling VR development requires extreme technical discipline regarding frame rates and draw calls. I spent the final phase of production profiling and optimizing the environment and rigged characters to ensure a stable, comfortable experience. This involved refining the rigging and animation cycles of the demonic presence to maintain its menacing impact while staying within performance budgets.

The Results

The project delivered a professionally polished VR title that maintains a stable performance budget through rigorous 3D asset optimisation and C# implementation. By overseeing the entire development pipeline, the final result showcases a comprehensive ability to manage the specific technical hurdles of VR, from haptic interaction logic to real-time rendering efficiency.
